About the event
Since 2007 the Annual West Coast Educational Excursion college and cultural enrichment tour enabled OYLA mentees, 7th-12th grades, the opportunity to travel to California for multiple days. OYLA participants and volunteers visit private and public higher learning institutions such as USC, Long Beach State, Cal-Poly Pomona, and UCLA. Activities include campus tours, special meet and greet with university administrations, in addition to workshops on admissions, student panel, and classroom visits.
The highlight of the WCEE is attending the national Black College Expo where over 5,000 youth from across Southern California meet with admission representatives from Historical Black Colleges & Universities and numerous California colleges and universities. In addition, OYLA youth have the opportunity to attend various seminars throughout the day.
